Easter is nearly upon us, it's a time we tend to enjoy a little something extra in the way of chocolate! By using organic Cacao powder to make these balls, you're getting antioxidants, magnesium, calcium, iron and the feel good factor all wrapped up in a ball! My philosophy is not about deprivation when you're working on a healthier lifestyle, but making better choices (crowd out those not so good ones) making it so much easier.
GF DF V but not taste free!
I've taken to making little bite sized slices lately, rather than balls as I find it so much quicker, easier and way less mess! If you're not into ginger or don't have any on hand, improvise with something like goji berries, cranberries, walnuts or whatever takes your fancy!
Into food processor 1/2 cup almonds and 1/2 cup sunflower seeds.
Blitz till still chunkish
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup cacao
2 TB chia seeds
Blitz some more till fine crumbs
1 tsp vanilla paste or pure essence
3 TB tahini
3 TB soft coconut oil
1 TB rice syrup (or sweetener of your choice like honey or maple syrup)
Mix well together.
Then stir through 1/4 - 1/2 cup finely sliced ginger.
Press into a slice tin, into the fridge till firm. Slice into small squares or the size you like.

You're not alone if you're confused by the smoothie and juicing hype and don’t really know why you’d do one over the other. Will this really lead to a healthier life? Or, perhaps you’re wondering what’s the difference? I was recently asked “When you say juicing, do you mean just squeezing the life out of the fruit and veg in a juicer or chopping it up finely in a nutri bullet type thing and drinking all of it? It seems like such a waste throwing out all the pulp.”
Short answer, I do both, depending on how I feel, what appeals at the time, and what I intuitively feel my body needs.
The day was drawing to a close. 2017 was nearly done. I’d walked the tracks in my neighbouring reserve many times before and was out with our dog Jax for my last reserve walk in 2017. I thought I knew all the tracks. I decided to walk further than usual, it was fabulous being out in one of my favourite places in nature. Next minute, Jax dived off down a bank in a different direction to the way we were going. For some reason, I decided to follow her and noticed a path that I didn’t know existed.

These bites are not too sweet but a little bite of something moorish when you're feeling like something sweet without going overboard. You could also make them into balls - I find a slice quicker, easier, far less mess and probably more hygenic!
Ginger is great for digestion and I enjoy the combo with pistachio nuts.
It's the time of year when overwhelm can creep up on you. Those words are flying around in your head that "everything has to be done by Christmas (who knows why??!) and you're struggling to cope. Before you know it or realise what’s going on, it happens. You’re constantly tired, there never seems to be enough hours in the day, brain fog has crept in and you can't think straight. Bang!
This cake's GF and DF (provided you use DF chocolate) and simple to make.
While you can eat it soon after baking, it goes to a whole new level if you leave the raspberry juice to soak in either overnight or earlier in the day. The cake goes "gooey" and denser once the fruit juice has soaked in.
Also good eaten on it's on with no fruit; maybe a dollop of coconut yogurt or get creative and add your own favourites on top. Perhaps boysenberries or black doris plums.
Halloween has been and gone, it’s got me thinking.............The question I’ve been asking myself this week is, how often do we walk around with a mask on? And why does that matter?
I've recently been working with a client who used to arrive home from work, so tired and wanting to flop on the couch with little energy or desire to prepare that nourishing meal. Feeling guilty about all the “have to dos” with little energy to do it. Not fun. I’m so proud of the work she's put in. She's dug deep and challenged her beliefs about saying no to every request at work when her own workload was already up around her ears.
GF, DF, Veg When you're in those menopausal years, research shows women benefit from a more plant based diet particularly if you've got belly fat you're trying to shift. Our dietary needs are different to men as we go through this stage. If you're estrogen dominant (think stubborn belly fat and more) then steer clear of soy and dairy, making this recipe perfect. Think a low GI, low acidic diet if menopause symptoms are causing you issues.
Here's an easy dinner, great for mid week, make extra and have leftovers for lunch. Get creative, this is a base recipe and you can add what you have on hand in the fridge.
